Algeria has a complex political history, marked by periods of authoritarian rule and dictatorship. Throughout the years, the country has been ruled by various strongmen who have wielded power with an iron fist. One such dictator was Houari Boumediene, who ruled Algeria from 1965 to 1978. Boumediene, a former military officer, came to power in a coup d'état and established a one-party state, suppressing political dissent and cracking down on opposition voices.
